The Fund of Protection of Social Paediatrics plans a noble goal to realise the programs of development of social paediatrics, as following: protection of social rights of mothers, children and adolescents and take care of their health. The Fund has a great experience, a corresponding material-technical base and qualified personnel. Famous physicians, professors, public men and lawyers collaborate with the Fund of Protection of Social Paediatrics who conduct charitable actions for the social provision and medical assistance of the population (free medical inspections, consultations). Total of above 61.700 children and adolescents were subjected to complex inspections on this actions, carried out in Tbilisi and different regions of Georgia (Mta-Tusheti, Adjara, Kodori gorge, Sighnakhi, Akhalgori, Bakhmaro-Beshumi, Baghdadi, Rustavi, Abasha, Gurjaani, Marneuli, Gori, Chokhatauri, Lanchkhuti, Sagarejo, Pasanauri, Zughdidi, Avchala settlement for children, Tskneti home for children, etc). In result a general picture of the state of illness and health of the population and effectiveness of provision of the population with qualified medical service was obtained. Recommendations were developed and programs were created for the improvement of medical service of children.  

The organisation has a great experience in the engagement and monitoring of the programs of treatment-and-prophylactic, rehabilitation and sanitary-hygienic education. With the support of UNICEF the project “Social-psychological, medical-prophylactic and rehabilitation measurements for Children and adolescents in Penitentiary institutions and temporary insulation ward. The main strategy of this project is: 1) to carry on appropriate measurements for health (treatment, recommendations, etc) on the basis of medical inspection of children in prisons and places of arrest; 2) to develop of rehabilitation measurements on the basis of psychosomatic data; 3) in order to provide a rule of sound life to carry out medical-educational work and to give them appropriate literature. In the process of the fulfilment of the program it has been revealed that there is a great number of cases of toxicomania, narcomania, prostitution, tuberculosis, infections transferred by sexual way, psychosomatic disorders. It is urgent to fulfil the following tasks of the program: 1) the isolation of condemned persons according to their age and category of crime; 2) formation appropriate orientation of girls (so called “children of streets”) in the age of childhood is one of the main aspect for the solution of the problem of future maternity; 3) it is necessary to carry on prophylactic and curative measurement against toxicomania, narcomania, infections transferred by sexual way and AIV infection in the age of childhood and adolescence; 4) to organize school workshops on the existing problems for teachers in teaching and educational institutions and Higher educational institutions (universities); 5) to create a cycle of special radio- and TV broadcast, and provide an active treatment of questions in the press (see the Project “Confession”). In the period of the accomplishment of the Program, some articles on the problems existing in periodical press were published: 1) “Some aspects of pedagogical work with the children of risk-group”. 2. “Attention!  Child is in front of you”! 3. “We take roads we must take”. 4. “Criminality of children and adolescents from the point of view of paediatrists”. 

Together with the League of Invalids the Fund has fulfilled the program: “Development of methodology of prevention of restricted mental and physical possibilities, its popularisation and primary social assistance in the age of childhood”. The goal of the Program was to study a hygienic state in educational institutions, to work out methods of prevention of existing disorders, to give an information about correct distribution of time for labour and rest, as well as about the necessity of physical activity and proper nutrition or to carry on the popularisation of sound way of life. The Fund fulfils the program “Favourable, special purpose program for children’s bringing up and development”. The strategic goal of this program is” 1) Provision of development of hygiene of children and adolescents in teaching and educational institutions of Tbilisi; 2) determination and fulfilment of preventive measurements for the provision of health of future generation in educational institutions of Tbilisi; 3) study of hygienic state in teaching and educational institutions and prophylaxis of existing disorders; 4) determination of education degree in hygienic questions of children and adolescents in teaching and educational institutions; 5) improvement of conditions of teaching and education of children and adolescents and observance  of hygienic rules and norms in their schools.

In medicinal institutions of Tbilisi it is already three years since the Fund fulfils the program of children’s nutrition in the age of 0-3. Together with Defence Fund of Georgia, the Fund of Protection of Social Paediatrics fulfilled the program “Medical, prophylactic and social rehabilitation of the families of persons participating and deceased in the battles for the integrity of Georgia. At present the Fund is fulfilling: I. the Program of health and social rehabilitation service of Tbilisi Major Administration   

1) Manifestation of school-children scoliosis and their risk-groups and preventive measurements;

2) Preventive and rehabilitation measurements against somatic diseases of children in Tbilisi institutional organisations (children’s home, boarding schools, creche-kindergartens, holiday hotels, shelters).

II. The program of Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia:

1) Component of organisation-methodological and legal provision of social sphere – “Formation of the institution of social worker in Georgia”, - 2004 year’s state program for supporting the institutional and functional reform of social sphere                  

2) Monitoring of a component of State program of stationary aid for population - children medical aid in the age of 0-3.

3. Monitoring of a component of State program of stationary aid for population - obstetric aid (obstetric aid and care of new-borns in conditions of maternity hospital; screening of new-borns on phenylketonuria);

4. Monitoring of a component of State program of stationary aid for population - urgent service of population (the first medical aid, urgent medical aid, and treatment with antirabic curative means).

III. In 2005 the Fund plans to realise the Project: Role of viruses in new-borns with generalised infections from the newborn intensive care units.

A working group of the Fund of Protection of Social Paediatrics founded at USAID and LEARNING (head M. Mirianashvili) is working on the Project of Georgian National Activities devoted to the interests of invalids.

In October 2004 the Fund of Protection of Social Paediatrics together with other non-governmental organisations won in the competition announced by USAID and LEARNING - “Let’s study to live together”, completely devoted to PR campaign for interests of Ministry of Internal Affairs. M. Mirianashvili appears to be a coordinator of this program.

At the office of Public Defender the Organisation held working meetings with the representative of “Global March” K. Satiarti on the problem - Under age criminals, their rights and the reality. The head of the Board of Administration made a speech at the meeting of International Association - “Caucasus - ethnic relations, human rights, geopolitics”, where an existing state of children right protection in Georgia was discussed. Total of 11 conferences and 17 symposia on different topics have been held by the Organisation, among them the following conferences: 1) “Modern Aspects of Congenital Infections” (6.11.2002), 2) Medical and Social Aspects of Patients with Mucoviscidosis” (7.11.2002); 3) “Sexual, Biomedical, Social and Psychological Aspects of Adolescents” (20.12.2002); 4) “Principles of Diagnostics of Secondary Immunodeficiency State in Paediatric Practice” (31.05.2003).

Every year, the Fund devotes conferences to the International Day of Children Protection, where topical problems of paediatrics, children’s rights and summary reports are discussed (01.06.2004, 01.06.2003, 01.06.2002, 01.06.2001, and 01.06.2000).

The Fund of Protection of Social Paediatrics is carrying on a great work with students, residents of Tbilisi State Medical University and young physicians. Student’s Union “PESTO” and League of young paediatrists has been founded at the Fund, which with an active assistance of the Fund conducts sanitary-educational activities, together with the Fund guide and actively assist scientific-practical activity of students, resident and young physicians.

The Fund of Protection of Social Paediatrics carries on publishing activities, issues newspaper “Social Paediatrics” and scientific-practical magazine “Social Paediatrics”, and methodological recommendations.

3. Modern principles of diagnostics, treatment and prognosis of disorder of cardiovascular system during rheumatoid arthritis, as well as during prolabiration of mitral valve in the age of childhood (No of registration - ¹2003357).

4. Modern principles of pathogenesis, timely diagnostics, treatment, prognosis and rehabilitation of inflammatory and noninflammatory congenital diseases of the heart (non-rheumatic carditis, myocardiodystrophy, cardiomyopathy, vegetal-vascular dystonia, arterial hypertension, arterial hypotension, myocardial infarction, ischemic disease of the heart) (No of registration - ¹2003358).
